'U Asked Me To Dance' in 'Nest'
curator: Neomi Aviv
Video installation and performance

‘Nest’ is a series of installations and performances that examines the fragile human existence and yearn for stability and belonging. The nest is a metaphor for ‘home’, but it holds both the concept of a home and its anti thesis- the lack of a home. It represents the aspiration for warmth and growth, but at the same time it’s temporary and exposed, and offer no real protection. The nests are built of local materials from the sites where exhibited. The process of collecting and gathering the raw, scattered material is relevant to us as an action in itself as the first phase in a process of turning raw material in chaotic state into a higher order of the nest structure. The ‘U Asked Me To Dance’ video was projected inside the nest. The video was filmed in 2001. Lital, lying on her back at the center of a circle of stones, is moving frantically in circles. Eyal filmed the event from above, in a point of view that doesn’t allow observing Lital’s face while the little stones scratch her back. The looped video eliminates the perception of time, emphasizing the Sisyphic and eternal aspect of this obscure dance.
