Three years of research and photography in different burnt forests at the Jerusalem area led to this video piece. Lital is wandering naked in 5 different burnt forests, collecting burnt branches and embracing them to her lap. The locations present forests in different phases of destruction. Her slow movement in each location seems almost as if it’s done out of complete serenity. at times she seems like a scared lost child.
‘The burned forest’ is a metaphor to the emotional state of being “on the verge”. It is that special period after the catastrophe. The burned forest holds the fragility of existence, but also the bursting power of life- renewing and continuing.
Eyal filmed these locations with tight still compositions that frame the wandering area to emphasize the slow rhythm of Lital’s movement.
The purpose of this activity in the forest is only figured out in other works of Lital & Eyal such as the ‘Nest’ installations.
